#11 Back to nature
Here are your headlines for Tuesday 31 March 2020
Anyone remember the first SL* newsletter? #1 Nature returns to Venice? Well there’s more…
🛑Please read this before scrolling — before you start scrolling through these, no one is saying what is going on is good news and that the world would be better if we were not around! BUT the SL* here is that it gives us all pause to consider how we share the world with such an amazing diversity of animals that few of us often get a chance to appreciate.
Everyone take a deep breath…
🦉Shhh… listen to that!
Chris Watson, Sound Recordist & President of the Wildlife Sound Recording Society has some wise words for us all.
🐦🐤What Twitter was made for
Tweet tweet — there are groups popping up like this inspired idea — Self-Isolation Bird Club, who are doing hour long live-stream events during the day, so that anyone can enjoy the relaxing sounds while stuck indoors, especially those no lucky enough to have a garden — they’ve already got over 12,000 followers :)
🐐🐐🐐🏴Kids these days
You know it’s going to be a good day when you wake up to see #Llandudno in Wales is trending worldwide! Yes, that’s right — without us humans around so much at the moment to scare them off, a heard of mountain goats decided to come down from the hills to take over the coastal town in North Wales! I can’t suggest a better start to your day than this — Andrew Stuart has pieced together how things have unfolded over the last 48hrs!
🇮🇳 Indian Civets
While this is not the rare ‘Malabar Civet’ that some have claimed online, it’s still very unusual to see the usually nocturnal Indian Civets wandering the streets of Kozhikode, the coastal city in the south Indian state of Kerala.
🐗 🇮🇹Not bore-ing at all
Meanwhile in the beautiful Italian city of Bergamo, northeast of Milan, which has been suffering dreadfully in recent weeks, Wild Bore have been spotted taking their piglets out for a walk — be careful though, they’re very protective of their young!
🐋 🇨🇦Having a whale of a time
🐢🇮🇳Turtling amazing
For the first time in seven years Olive Ridley sea turtles have been spotted nesting during the day — they usually return to Odisha along the eastern coastline of India every year to lay their eggs, but the lack of fishing boats and tourists have probably resulted in this rare sighting.
🇺🇸🐺 Maybe keep your distance from this one!
Coyotes have also been spotted going for morning strolls in the streets of San Francisco!
🐬🇮🇳Dolphins in Mumbai
Without the usual number of fishing trawlers in the water, dolphins are being spotted off the coast of Mumbai.
🐂🇮🇳Uttar-ly amazing
There are even stories of Nilgai (I had to google them!) been spotted wandering the streets of Noida in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.
Those of you who are interested, these beautiful animals also known as Blue Bulls are the largest Asian antelope and found across the Northern sub-continent!
🦌🇮🇳Staggering
Please turn the sound on for this one… Papa woooow!!! 😌
